I'm still painfully trying to finish off my uni degree (MEHl) mainly because I want to have something to show for my HECS debt.
I guess I've moved on from my whole archaeologist thing and have turned to the kitchen... I've been doing cookery at TAFE just (finished my cert II in kitchen operations) and have started to do commercial cookery Cert III and patisserie.
I quite like this cooking thing and want to travel around Europe (perhaps even further) with it and then eventually set up my own restaurant/ cabaret bar.
Over the last few years I've dabbled in the art of burlesque but never actually performed on stage until just recently [link] .... I've performed a couple of times under the name "Valerie Noir".
I thoroughly enjoy watching and performing burlesque and while, yes it incorporates "strip tease," it also is a celebration of women and you can see that from the broad variety of shapes, sizes and backgrounds women involved (oh yes lets not forget Boylesque too). Don't get me wrong there are some performers and performances branded as "burlesque" that have been rather distasteful IMO but I guess that can come with the territory.
Burlesque in its modern form incorporates theatre, song, cabaret, gymnastics, humour and dance, whilst remaining sexy and sultry.
When you go to a burlesque show you'll notice the audience is also an interesting assortment, not just men but ladies too, of different age, background and sexual orientation.
It is thanks to these ladies [link] (Miss Kitty's Meow) , in particular this lovely lady [link] (Grace Cherry). that I've found my feet in the world of burlesque.
I am hoping to try and compete in "Miss Burlesque Australia" [link] I am not in anyway going to win the title but just simply being accepted into my state's heat would be a prize enough but I will aim to try and get "Miss Hobart" or even better "Miss Tasmania."
So I have to start working on my choreography and I've recently started a new fitness and diet regimen and well just 3 weeks in and I'm already getting some good results *gasp*... I'm starting to build me some abs (thank you Carmen Elektra).
Oh yeah and I've also taken up belly dancing too! [link]
If you'd like to befriend my alter ego Valerie and watch me develop as a performer go here ---------->[link]
Thanks to reading and here's to food and burlesque

This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
